History

With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 (1399 in the Iranian calendar) and the suspension of in-person meetings, several sessions began operating online.
Iranians and Persian speakers abroad, who faced specific restrictions and prohibitions on attending and organizing in-person meetings, as well as members in remote areas, found a suitable platform for connection. Numerous meetings with various formats and minimal costs were established, which significantly impacted the preservation of sobriety and the quantitative and qualitative growth of the association’s members.

With the continued suspension of in-person meetings across all cities and groups in Iran and abroad, many online groups were established under the names of cities, regions, or groups. In this context, and to support each other and adhere to traditions, the first Service Committee of Online Groups held its meeting on September 19, 2020, corresponding to Saturday, September 29, 1399, with the presence of 12 groups and by unanimous vote.
Gradually, the number of these groups increased, and the services within them became more organized. Their flexibility allowed them to align as closely as possible with the in-person groups of the association.
Recovery, workshop, and educational sessions were held at various levels, including events with hundreds and thousands of members, especially on occasions like Unity Day, Sponsor Day, Service Day, and others, at both national and global levels. Many of us have experienced attending these events.
With the quantitative and qualitative growth of this platform, on March 18, 2022, corresponding to Friday, March 27, 1400, the Service Committee of Online Groups was renamed the Service Area of Online Groups. The first appearance of the liaison at this service level took place at the Regional Council of the UK in March.

The Service Area of Online Groups is connected to the structure of Narcotics Anonymous (Regional Council of the UK) and was established by Persian-speaking online groups with the aim of unity, coordination, and providing better services.
It is worth noting that the Regional Council of the UK is connected to the European Delegates Meeting (EDM).

This service area was established as a bridge between Persian-speaking online groups, with its members now exchanging experiences from around the world, including Australia, Iran, Europe, and the United States.
